The International Residential Code contains a complete set of code provisions that covers all aspects of construction in a single source.
It’s designed to safeguard the public health and safety of all in communities both large and small.
The principles and the provisions in the code encourage the use of new and smarter technological advances.
SimpleElement complies with the following IRC standards.
All habitable room except kitchens must be at least 70 sq. ft. (IRC R304.1)
No habitable room except kitchen shall be less than 7 feet in any horizontal direction (IRC R304.2)
Habitable space must have a ceiling height of 7 feet (6 feet, 8 inches for bathrooms). (IRC R305.1)
Sleeping rooms must have an emergency escape window. (IRC R310.1)
Every home must have a toilet, bathtub or shower with the required space between fixtures, and a kitchen with a sink. (IRC R306.1, R306.2, R307.1)
An approved heating system is required. (IRC R303.10)
The structure must conform to current energy conservation standards (Chapter 4 of the 2009 IECC)
Smoke alarms are required in each sleeping room and outside the sleeping room in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms. (IRC R314)
The construction of buildings and structures shall result in a system that provides a complete load path that meets all requirements for the transfer of loads from their point of origin through the load-resisting elements to the foundation. Structures must be anchored to the foundation. (IRC R301.1 and R403.1.6)
Exterior walls must be strong enough to withstand wind load and windows must meet certain specifications. (IRC R301 and R308)
